2019 Interns

Team2019.jpeg

Austin: Hola! I am a senior Medical Biology/Pre-Med student, with a minor in psychology. I love traveling and learning about different cultures, so I am looking forward to combining this with my passion of helping others. I am working at the San Rafael hospital and school, working in a classroom with children with severe disabilities. From this I'm hoping to learn about their healthcare and customs while taking care of the children. I'm hoping to learn more about myself, such as being in an unfamiliar environment, pushing through possibly uncomfortable situations, learning a new language, and learning a new culture.

Caleb: My name is Caleb Levine. I’m a Fine Arts Major, currently going into my junior year of college. In my free time I enjoy playing and listening to music, walking around, getting good food and hanging out with my friends and my family. I chose to come to Granada Spain this summer because I honestly have been looking for something to push me further out of my comfort zone than ever before. I’ve been to Granada before, but it was only for a week or so, and it was with my family. I’m really excited to see how much my Spanish improves, and I can’t wait to see how this internship effects my life.

Jillian: Hi, I'm a junior Social Work major at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. I love traveling and experiencing beauty in the world. I am super excited to immerse myself in Spanish culture while in Granada and can't wait to share my experiences!

Brianna: Hi! I’m Brianna and I’m going to be a junior (pre-med student) at SJC this fall. I love traveling to new places and trying new things, so when I heard about this internship, I knew I had to come. When else would I be able to do what I love while exploring a different country? From the historic sites to the evening tapas, I’ve already fallen in love with Granada, and I can’t wait for the next month.

Maya: Hola, Maya here! I am an upcoming sophomore and majoring in Fine Arts at Saint Joseph's College. I like painting, traveling, singing, photography, and experiencing new cultures. At first I was skeptical about going on this month long trip, but from being here for a week now I have zero regrets or doubts. This has already been an amazing experience thus far; I can't wait to continue to learn about art history, as well as what it takes to run your own business as an artist through my two internships here in Granada.

Sarah: Hello my name is Sarah Egan and I am going to be a junior nursing student at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. I love to read and exploring new places! Granada has been a dream come true so far and I am looking forward to the rest of the month :)

2017 Interns

We are seven college students from Maine embarking on a journey to travel and make an impact on a new community.

Chiara: I am an outgoing, travel enthusiast that loves to make an impact while exploring a new place. As a nursing student, I am excited to be working with children, the elderly, and homeless. This experience is just the beginning to my travels and outreach! â€‹

Meg: I want to create a more peaceful, sustainable world. Through traveling, I get to gain new perspectives which allow me to better understand how I can make this a reality. During my internship, I will be working with underprivileged youth; teaching them, through sport, important values that will help empower them to become mindful, peaceful, contributing members of society. I am very excited to have the opportunity to do this important work while exploring a beautiful, new city.

Ellie: I am an art and design major with a passion for travel and everything adventure related. I will be designing a chicken coop for a local public farm and a community garden for the seminary here. I will also be photographing the trip and all the exploration that happens while we are here. I am hoping to grow my skills as a photographer and a designer along with gaining priceless experiences in this beautiful city!

Caroline: Hi Everyone! I am a Social Work and Spanish double major, so when I was given the opportunity to intern in Granada, Spain I jumped at the opportunity. I am a curious person and absolutely love learning and immersing myself in a new culture. This internship in Granada perfectly combines my majors and interests, because while I am here I will get to volunteer with Caritas and programs run through the San Rafael Hospital. The programs I will participate in are committed to social justice and empowering vulnerable populations. I look forward to learning from those I will serve, the other volunteers, and the employees of both Caritas and the hospital. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to serve the community of Granada, all while becoming a member of it.

Tim: As a graduate student of the Business & Sports Management major, I saw a perfect opportunity to travel, improve my resume, and help the world around me. It will certainly be great to see new places, but the fun will come with my internship helping underprivileged children through sports. I can't wait to learn from the children whether it's playing soccer or learning Spanish; I certainly look forward to potentially teaching them new sports from the US.

Megan: As an International Business and Marketing double major, I hope and plan on traveling the world as much as I can. I do not just want to visit new places, but to gain new understandings of the different cultures this world has to offer and to learn first-hand how business is conducted in other countries. During my internship, I will be working with Caritas. It is a non-profit organization run through the church. Working here will allow me to gain the experience of what it takes to do business in another country. I am beyond grateful that I have this opportunity. I am looking forward to what the next four weeks have to offer!
