Look for Me on the Edge of the Sea

This past weekend, the entire internship group ventured down to Almunecar, Spain. We enjoyed our time relaxing on the beach! Quick note about beaches in Europe: they're mostly topless beaches. For us American's, prepare yourselves for this all natural experience. It is an experience.

Upon arriving to Almunecar, we were lost! Mike didn't know where we were supposed to go and whomever he spoke to on the phone didn't quite help us either. I mean, how can you get directions to some place if you don't know where you're going? Real life moment. Once we got to the house, we left our things and got back into the car and made our way to the store. Shopping with 8 people and trying to buy food to feed 13 for 3 meals and snacks is quite the experience. When you're in a grocery store in a foreign country and don't know items or where to look, you can end up in quite a funk. However, in the end we wound up spending way less than we thought on a TON of food. We did not go hungry and there were even snacks for the car ride home!

The beach isn't like a Maine beach. Instead of soft sand there are rocks. Rocks that burn like lava when they're baking in the heat! Definitely remember the flip flops to walk yourself to the waters edge...or practically burn your feet off making the mad dash. The Mediterranean Sea is a beautiful clear blue that you can stay in forever. The salt makes it more buoyant than the Atlantic resulting in floating in the warm water without much effort. I seriously never wanted to leave it.

The next morning, a few of us woke up early to catch the sunrise. We made the short walk down to the beach in our pajamas and blankets. We were greeted by the warm salty breeze and a sky full of color. The edge of the water was lined with fisherman catching their fish for the day. A truly peaceful moment for everyone. The sun rose behind the mountains, casting a beautiful shadow and light on everything below.

After spending another day in the rocks and the sun, I realized I never wanted it to end. With a perfect location, the perfect weather, and the perfect water- it was heaven on earth. I doubt this will be my last time swimming in these blue waters. Until next time...
