The last week of my Journey in Spain ended by volunteering in a nursing home. I colored fish with some residents to decorate for summer. One woman took us on a tour of the nursing home. She introduced us to anyone and everyone and showed us a balcony with a view of the Alhambra. The residents sang songs for us and even got Caroline and I to Flamenco dance. A nurse brought us vibrantly colored flamenco dresses along with a scarf and headpiece. We danced to the residents singing. I realized I should never take up a career as a dancer, but the elderly loved watch us dance even if it wasn’t good. You could see how much it brightened their day having us there. It was a great experience even for just three days. I spent my last day in Spain with my family. We went to a farm just outside of the city so the boys could ride ponies. I got to play with newborn kittens, dogs, a pig, and other horses. It was a great way to spend the last day. In the afternoon we had our farewell celebration. It was hard to say goodbye to everyone. I’m forever thankful for the experiences Spain gave me and for the wonderful family and friends I was blessed with. I can’t wait until the day I can return and see everyone again.
