Sunday the 3rd
This Sunday was great! I started my morning in the park per usual to get some fresh air then a few girls and I went to a soup kitchen and helped prepare meals for the homeless people here in Granada. I love soup kitchens and love how it brings people together to do something good. It was great meeting the other volunteers and hearing about their lives and getting to know them. I wish there were more free weekends coming up to be able to keep going each week.
Tuesday the 5th
We all went to our internships just like the weeks before and tonight was a little different with my host family. They all decided to take us out to dinner. They took us to a burger place that they love and it was delicious. It was very sweet of them to do that and even wanting to take us out one more time before we go home back to the states.
Wednesday the 6th
Wednesday was good very warm out and we all headed to our professor's apartment for home cooked meal… cheeseburgers! They were absolutely delicious and it was great to have all of us together. We also watched a documentary called “The Human Experience” I loved it. It was great to see and I’m a big traveler in impoverished countries so it gave me a little taste of home in a sense. It reminded me that what I want to do is the right fit for me and is exactly what I want to do in life. In the coming years it maybe different as life goes on and I worry I may lose track of what I want but only time will tell. It was great watching this movie with everyone to show that is doesn’t matter how little you have as long as you have a loving community/family/friends; that’s all it takes to be happy.
Thursday the 7th
The seven of us traveled to Barcelona this evening and we stayed in a hostel. The view of the city was amazing. It just was a little stressful being so far from the main city but it was still really fun! It was a great bonding experience all living in one room and sharing a bathroom but I love that sort of thing!
Friday the 8th
On Friday we ventured out to the Sagrada Family it was beautiful! Then we headed to a rooftop bar that showed you a view of the whole city; it was also very beautiful. Then we went and found food somewhere to eat. Wherever we went it was very delicious and I hope to find something similar in Granada: it was that good.
Then at the end of the night everyone was tired and asleep but I heard a bunch of girls and guys outside talking English so I had to see what was going on. I said hello they immediate invited me to join them and play cards and share where we were from and what we want to do. It was great! There were about 25 who where there in Barcelona for weekend. Half who were sitting at the table with me were on a track to a get certificate that would help them join the Peace Corps... and to me that was singing in my ears. For a lot of people where I live (it’s a very homegrown town) kids grow up stay in the same town and all their kids become friends generation after generation, so the chance of going to the Peace Corps is slim. So it was fantastic to be able to talk about our lives and how similar our goals were! They were all from Indiana, Purdue University.
Saturday the 9th
Emma and I ventured to the monastery of Montserrat, nearby. If you are ever planning a trip to Barcelona I would say this is a must! It is a hour each way, so it was perfect for napping and a tour guide explained what everything was. It was a beautiful area with a church and bakery and possibly a hotel (not sure)! But it was an amazing area to hike and see the amazing land around you. They even have little stands with free cheeses to taste and different almonds and figs to try. It was all so delicious... There I bought honey and jam and for a very good price as well. It will not disappoint; I am so thankful I decided to go. After my very late night before hand and early ride I was thankful to get on the plane and head back home to Granada. When arriving home our host familia was very excited for our return and welcomed us with snacks and posters welcoming us: how cute! We even decided to all watch a movie together. It was very sweet but I felt bad for falling asleep but it had been a very long day of travel. I just enjoyed being able to spend time with the family.
Sunday the 10th
At first I thought it was weird, all of us heading back home to Granada on a Saturday instead of Sunday, but I am so thankful we had this day to recuperate. I slept in very late and had a delicious lunch prepared by my host family. It was chick peas in a sauce and rice. I love chickpeas so I was very pleased. Then after that I went to walk around and found myself at the park and a cute family asked me to take their picture for them. They were so cute so I was so pleased to be helping them out, haha. Then I came back and passed out a for 4 hours. It was fantastic. I love sleeping. Then we all had dinner and decided to watch “The Greatest Showman.” It was very cute and I loved it. I had heard great things about it and had been wanting to see it so I was very happy about that. My family even made old fashion popcorn on the stove and it was the best popcorn I had ever eaten!
Now I can’t wait to get back to my bed and sleep and prepare for my last week here in Granada!
